Our students at Marefat High School who finished academic year 2016.  Please know that we only publish photos and biographies of those students for whom we have received consent from the students, their families and our partner school.  Bamyan Foundation provided scholarships to 24 students in 2016.


SHAHLA AWAZ

SHAHLA AWAZ

Shahla Awaz was born in 1999. Before enrolling in Marefat High School, Shahla was weaving carpet and didn’t dream of being able to go to school one day. Her relatives had said to her that she was too old to go to school. However, she bravely joined Marefat High School's Accelerated Learning Program. After a year of attending the program, she was able to successfully pass exams for sixth grade students. While studying at the school, she has also been an active member of Marefat High School's Music Department. Additionally, Shahla has been working part-time at the school's canteen to support her family. She is a talented singer and song producer. Shahla has produced many beautiful songs and anthems for school performances. Shahla comes from a family of 12 that include her parents and 9 siblings. In 2016 academic year, Shahla was in 11th grade.


JAMAILA ALI SHIR

JAMAILA ALI SHIR

Jamaila Ali Shir was born in 2001 in Pakistan where her family resided as refugees. In 2014, Jamila and her family returned to Afghanistan. After living in Ghazni Province for three years, Jamila and her family moved to Kabul. She enrolled in Marefat High School in 8th grade. Jamila is an active member of Marefat High School's Student Council and Student Club. She also participates in the music department. Her involvement in extracurricular activities at the school has helped her gain recognition among her peers. Jamila is from a family of 10. Her father serves in the Afghan National Army. 


RABIA MOHAMMAD AMIN

RABIA MOHAMMAD AMIN

Rabia Mohammad Amin was born in 1997 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. She enrolled in Marefat High School at fourth grade. In 2016 academic year, Rabia was in grade 12. She has been among the brightest students at Marefat High School by maintaining excellent academic records and consistently holding the first position in her class. Rabia is from a family of seven. Her father died when she was a child. Her 23 years old brother is the only breadwinner for the family. In the summer of 2016, she lost two of her brothers in the terrorist attacks on the largest Hazara demonstration in Afghanistan's history in Kabul led by the Enlightenment Movement. Rabia was identified among the most eligible students at Marefat High School to have been awarded Bamyan Foundation's scholarship in 2016.  


KHADIJA HABIB

KHADIJA HABIB

Khadija Habib was born in 1998 in Iran where her family resided as refugees. She was seven years old when her family returned to Afghanistan. Soon after their return, Khadija was admitted to Marefat High School. She has been one of the most brilliant students at the school. Her academic performances are excellent. In 2016, Khadija was in 12th. grade. She is not only highly dedicated to her own academic progress, but also an inspiration to fellow students in her class. She is a talented writer and an active member of the Students Ccouncil at Marefat High School. She is from a family of 6 with her father, a day-laborer, as the ultimate breadwinner. In academic year 2016, Khadija was among the most eligible students to receive Bamyan Foundation's scholarship through Marefat High School.


MARINA ABDUL HAMID

MARINA ABDUL HAMID

Marina Abdul Hamid, was born in 2003 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. Her family moved to Kabul in order to escape the Taliban attacks. She initially enrolled in a public school, but recently joined Marefat High School. She is from a family of 8 and both of her parents are unemployed. In 2016 academic year, Marina was in seventh grade. She has an outstanding academic records and holds the second position in her class. She is highly dedicated to her academic progress and works hard to pursue her future ambitions.


Razia Mohammad

Razia Mohammad

Razia Mohammad was born in 1999 in Iran where her family resided as refugees. In 2006, she and her family returned to Afghanistan. She started her education at a public school at the age of six. In 2014, she applied for admission to Marefat High School as an 8th. grade student. In 2016, Razia was in 10th. grade. At Marefat High School, she was initially challenged by Marefat's higher academic standard due to the poor quality of education offered at her previous school. Since then, she has improved steadily each term and remains committed to her progress.


Zahra

Zahra Mohammad Jawad was born in 2002 in Iran where her family resided as refugees. In 2004, Zahra and her family returned to Afghanistan. In 2010, she was enrolled in Marefat High School. She is from a family of six including her grandfather, parents and two brothers. Her father is a day-laborer who barely affords the family's basic needs. In 2016, Zahra was in 8thgrade and she was awarded Bamyan Foundation's scholarship at Marefat High School. She has maintained a good academic progress and ranks among Marefat's growing talents.


Maryam

Maryam

Maryam Nadir Ali was born in 1999 in Iran. Her family moved to Pakistan when she was two and she was eleven when they returned to Afghanistan. She joined Marefat High School in 8th grade. She lives in a family of nine. Her father is a day-laborer. While very supportive of her daughter's education, he is unable to afford her tuition and fees at the school. In 2016 academic year, she was awarded Bamyan Foundation's scholarship through Marefat High School.  

Maryam’s educational growth is promising. She is a talented member of the music department with wonderful songs and performances on the stage. She is an active member of Marefat's Student Council and a participant in almost all extracurricular activities offered at the school.


Samira

Samira Mehrab Ali was born  in 2001 in Iran. She enrolled in Marefat High School as a 6th. grade student. Prior to joining Marefat, she studied in Iran where she and her family resided as refugees. Samira comes from a family of five. Her father is a day-laborer and her mother is a housewife. Samira has maintained a good academic record. Additionally, she is involved in several extracurricular activities at the school.


Simin Gul

Simin Gul

Simin Gul Chaman was born in 2003. She enrolled in Marefat High School as a first grade student. In 2016, she achieved the 4th position in her class with an average score of 85%. She has consistently been found eligible to receive Marefat High School's financial assistance to cover her tuition and fees. In 2016 academic year, she was awarded Bamyan Foundation's scholarship through Marefat High School.


Khatima

Khatima

Khatima Salman Ali was born in 1998. She was very young when her family moved from Ghazni to Kabul Province. Khatima joined Marefat High School as a third grade student. She has since maintained excellent academic records. In 2016 academic year, she was in 12th grade. Khatima is a talented singer and a stage performer. She is an active member of Marefat's Student Council as well. She was awarded Bamyan Foundation's scholarship at Marefat High School in 2016.


Zahra

Zahra Mohammad Jawad was born in 2002. In 2015, she enrolled in Marefat High School as a fifth grade student. She is a smart girl and works hard to excel in her education. Zahra comes from a family of six that includes her parents, two brothers and three sisters.


Mustafa

Mustafa

Mustafa Mohammad Hussain was born in 1998. He joined Marefat High School as first grade student. His father is deceased. Mustafa has an excellent talent in Mathematics. In 2016 academic year, he was in 11th grade. He has always been among Marefat's top students. He is an ambitious student with high interests in innovations. He also assists  his peers in their assignments. He lives in a family of seven with his mother being the only supporter for the entire family.


Jahan Beeg Lutfullah was born in 1998 in Pakistan. His family returned to Afghanistan and he joined Marefat High School as a second grade student. In academic year 2016, he was in 12th grade. Jahan Beg comes from a family of six including his parents and his three brothers. In 2016, he was awarded Bamyan Foundation's scholarship through Marefat High School. Jahan Beg's father is a teacher.

Radmir Lutfullah was born in 2002 in Pakistan. He joined Marefat High School as a first grade student after his family returned to Afghanistan. He has since maintained a good academic record and his average scores have been above 85%. In 2016, he was one of Bamyan Foundation's Scholarship recipient at Marefat High School. His father is a good calligrapher. His mother is a house wife. His three brothers also attend Marefat High School.


Rehana

Rehana

Rehana Raz Mohammad was born in 1998. In 2016, she was an 11th. grade student at Marefat High School. She comes from a family of six that includes herself, her parents, a sister and two brothers.


Fariba Abdul Hamid was born in 2008. She is a second grade student at Marefat High School. She is one of the three girls in her family and has three brothers.


 

Mohammad Jawad Khalilullah was born in 1998. In academic year 2016, Moh. Jawad was in 11th grade. He is one of the top students in his class maintaining a score of above 85%. Mohammad Jawad comes from a family of nine that includes himself, his parents and his siblings.


Fatema Ghulam Abbas was born in 2001 in Kabul, Afghanistan. In 2016, she was a 9th. grade student at Marefat High School. She is one of the highly talented students at the school and has consistently earned the highest scores in both mid-term and final exams. Fatema comes from a family of five. Fatema comes from a family of 9 including her parents. Her father is a day-laborer and her mother is a housewife.


Aqila Dawood born in 2000 in Bamyan Afghanistan. In 2016, Aqila was a 10th. grade student at Marefat High School. She maintains an outstanding school records. In addition to her class, she is involved in all extracurricular activities available at the school. She also speaks English. Aqila comes from a family of 6 including her parents. Her father is a day-laborer.



Malika Abdul Latif was born in 2002. She is a 7th. grade student at Marefat High School. She comes from a family of five. Her father is deceased and her 16-year old brother is the only breadwinner for the family.  Her mother and sister also attend Marefat's accelerated learning program.
